What do you know about the Big One for One Drop? This is a poker tournament designed to help bring clean to people and ensure access to hygiene and sanitation to people around the world. The last Big One for One Drop poker tournament was in 2018.
Now, this event returns to Las Vegas in a few months. This time, the tournament will be partnering with the World Poker Tour to bring one of the biggest poker games at the end of the year.
The buy-in for the tournament is $1 million. According to the CEO of World Poker Tour, Adam Pliska, a $1M buy-in is an indication of how far the World Poker Tour has evolved. Adam also said that the buy-in reflects how much the poker industry was willing to go.
A fraction of the buy-in will go to charity. Previously, $111,111 of the buy-in was donated to the charity. However, this year only $60,000 or six percent of the buy-in will go to charity.
Winners of the $1M Big One for One Drop Poker Tournament
The buy-in for the Big One for One Drop poker game is an indication of how big the prizes can be. For instance, the first time the event happened was in 2012. Antonio Esfandiari was the champion in a field of 48 players. He won $18.3 million.
This tripled Antonio`s lifetime winnings from poker tournaments. The second event happened in 2014, with professional players like Daniel Negreanu gracing the event. Daniel managed to go to the final table, where he went head-up against Daniel Colman.
Colman took the win, pocketing $15.3 million. This event was followed by another at Monte Carlo.
Dubbed Big One for One Drop Extravaganza, this event was exclusive. Only the invited professional players could attend. Elton Tsang won the event, taking home over $12 million.
Big One for Drop One returned to Las Vegas with the World Series of Poker (WSOP) in 2018. Justin Bonomo beat a field of 27 players to pocket $10 million.
More Charity Poker Events Coming Up
The $1 million poker tournament at the end of the year is not the only charity event World Poker Tour plans to hold. The poker operator also plans to host another two charity poker tournaments at Wynn in July.
The first charity event is scheduled for July 9, 2023. It is called WPT EveryOne for One Drop. On July 14, the poker operator will hold another event called the WPT Alpha8.
The buy-in for July events is much smaller. Ideally, players will part away with $10,000 to stand a chance to win a guaranteed prize pool of $10,000,000. The second charity event has a buy-in of $111,000.
