With the events of Day 15 of the 2016 World Series of Poker ended and getting ready for Day 16, two great tournaments have just ended, crowning the winners with cash and the coveted gold bracelet. We have the $10,000 Seven Card Razz Championship on one hand that had a big upset, while the $1,000 Pot Limit Omaha had a favorite take the victory.
Ray Dehkharghani Beats Jason Mercier in Razz
Poker pro, Jason Mercier was attempting to get his second, back-to-back WSOP bracelet this year, but got shut down by Ray Dehkharghani in a heads-up battle during the Razz Event #20. Mercier had just got done winning the $10,000 No-Limit 2-7 Single Draw Championship and was hoping to add a second bracelet to his record. Dehkharghani managed to beat Mercier with a 10-9-9-8-7-7-6 hand, taking his chances right from under him.

This was Dehkharghani’s first time winning a WSOP bracelet and he was very happy with the Events outcome. He shared how the heads-up battle with Mercier felt,
“It was really clear the stress really set in and affected him. It wasn’t a matter of my capitalizing on that, but I do believe the weight of [the side bets] affected him negatively in the match. It was palpable.”
Sam Soverel Bests 1,106 Players for Event #19 Bracelet
Sam Soverel had a tough time getting to the final table of the Event #19: $1,000 Pot Limit Omaha, but he managed to outplay over a thousand players to get the chance to take first place, and that is exactly what he did. This will be Soverel’s first WSOP gold bracelet, but his career is far from over, and will certainly get the chance to do so again. His career live tournament earnings jumped to $2,145,013 after getting the $185, 317 cash prize for winning.

Soverel did not expect to even join and play in this particular event, but ended up winning anyways,
“Coming into this year’s Series, a $1,000 event isn’t something I would normally play. But I had a really bad week in cash games, so I decided to take a few days off. Then, I late registered right before the dinner break and came in with only 10 big blinds when I started and then ran good.”
Day 16 of the World Series of Poker is currently on the way and there looks to be a good chance of Daniel Negreanu getting his 7th gold bracelet from the Event #21: $3,000 Six-Max No-Limit Hold’em.
