There were three main WSOP events on August 9, including the $150 buy-in GGMasters WSOP Edition and the HK $8,000 NLHE Asia Championship. The day’s three bracelet events awarded a total of $7.5m in prize money and attracted thousands of players.

Brazil’s Third Champion

After almost 13 hours of play on the final day of Event #55: HK $8,000 NLHE Asia Championship, he walked away from a winner.

Assuncao Garla got past a field of 3,247 entries and defeated poker coach Alexandros “THE Sheriff” Theologis in a head-to-head battle, taking the top prize of HK$ 3,551,611 ($461,709).

Following the closing of the event, Brazil received a great deal of attention once again due to its players making it deep into the WSOP in both Las Vegas and on the GGnetwork. Assuncao Garla gave the nation its third victory, which goes alongside three runner-up finishes during the first half of the festival.

Assuncao Garla’s best performance came back in 2014 when he took 34th place in the WSOP Main Event, receiving a prize of $230,487.
