WPT Prime Voyage Championship Complete

The first half of the World Poker Tour season is over, but some interesting events are still taking place. Before the second half of the season starts, players will get the chance to play in some unique tournaments.

The WPT Prime Voyage Championship was recently held, and this was a chance for players to compete and have some fun. In the end, Gregory De Faria came away with the win and a massive chunk of the prize money.

De Faria was able to take home $155,400 by winning this championship, and he was also awarded nearly 1,000 Card Player Player of the Year points. Not only was this a massive payday for De Faria, but it was also an extremely unexpected win.

While De Faria has been looking to stay busy in the live poker scene, his biggest win up to this point was less than $4,000. With some success in this event, it is expected that De Faria will be looking to participate in other events throughout the year.

A Big Event

The WPT is known for putting on some massive events, which was the case in this standalone tournament. There were 968 total entries in this tournament, and the buy-in was pretty substantial at $1,100.

The World Poker Tour initially set the guaranteed prize pool at $500,000, but that number was pushed up to nearly $1 million due to the large number of entries in this tournament even though De Faria was the only player to receive six figures, the top four spots all paid out at least $50,000.

Three starting flights took place from April 1-3, and several players were eliminated during the flighted play. Those who could advance then battled it out on April 4 for a full day of some great poker action.

While most poker tournaments tend to knock out many players before the final day, 122 players survived. While de Faria was always in the mix throughout the event, he didn’t take a big lead until he won a big hand ahead of heads-up action.

A Great Leaderboard

Most WPT events are filled with some great poker players, and that was definitely the case in this tournament. It was shocking to see De Faria come out on top, especially when looking at some of the other big-name competing players.

Ryan Reiss made it to the final table with a ninth-place finish and won the Main Event at the World Series of Poker. Nicolas Betbese looked like he was going to come up with a win in this event, but he ended up bowing out with a third-place finish.

De Faria had to deal with Trent Hopper in heads-up action, and there were a number of hands played between the two. Ultimately, De Faria kept the pressure on to come up with a big win.
